Hundreds of Bronx families came together on Friday for an early Thanksgiving feast, thanks to the hometown New York Yankees.
The Yankees partnered with Legends Hospitality and Scan-Harbor. Legends Hospitality helped provide the food for the many families in attendance at Rev. T. Wendell Foster Park and Rec Center.
Scan-Harbor operates at the park and rec center, providing after school programming for kdis in the Bronx.
The menu consisted of the many Thanksgiving classics, from turkeys to sweet potatoes, mac and cheese and green beans. According to city data, the Bronx is the borough with the highest concentration of food-insecure people, so Yankees representatives are ecstatic to help the people leave with full stomachs and hearts.
“Because all of our managers who work at Yankee Stadium, they all volunteer their time and enjoy it,” said Yankees executive chef Matt Gibson. “We have a fun time in the kitchen with this…. If you look around, there’s a lot of smiley faces and a lot of happy people.”
