Yellow school bus service may not be cut just yet for Bronx students after the Department of Education reportedly puts off the cost-cutting plan.
The Department of Education says even though it extended the deadline to sign up for the bus service, it still hasn?t heard from enough students to put its plan into effect. According to a New York Post report, only 63 percent of the 110,000 students eligible to take yellow school buses responded to a request to register.
Education officials say the department had planned to go ahead with the plan to streamline bus routes and issue MetroCards to students who didn?t sign up. However, Schools Chancellor Joel Klein said Wednesday that the department needs more time to figure out how many students may actually need the service.
