Young girls are learning science and gardening in Morrisania with a City Parks Foundation program.
The girls are digging through dirt and catching bugs in the learning gardens at the Grove Hill Playground.
The program aims to teach them about "urban forestry," or how nutrients are cycled between bug and plant life and the soil in the city.
Organizers say the five-week program gives the girls a chance to learn more about nature than they would otherwise. It also promotes a healthier ecosystem and STEM education.
