Tired of this winter weather news. 12 New Jersey's Karina Gary and photojournalist, Mike Roberts, take us to the New Island water park. Here's road trip. Close to home. Right. It doesn't matter if it's winter, spring, summer or fall island water park at show boat has it all. I'm Karina Gian on this week's road trip. Close to home. I'm gonna show you what it's all about no matter what the weather, it's always sunny in the 85 degrees inside. This really seems to be a game changer. It's a game changer. This is the big, wow. In Atlantic City, I love $100 million investment for family friendly year round, but so much fun. Here we have 11 slides. We have racing mat slides where people can go head first. We have two slides where they can slink and, and go down the slide and then we have kid friendly slides as well. We have an adult section. Paradise Island and it's the only swim a bar in Atlantic City. We have a surf simulator, the only one in the state of New Jersey where you can get actual surf lessons. Everybody loves this lazy river. Lazy river. You just float around on the inner tubes all day. It goes the whole course. Perfect. You really need family fun entertainment and this has it all. There's so much more for you guys to check out, but you're gonna have to come and see for yourself.

Litchfield Distillery - Made in Connecticut

Spirits have become big business across the US. This week in Baden Connecticut, we visit a distillery in Litchfield where making whiskey is a family affair. The Baker family and the beverage business go way back. Peter Baker, David Baker, Jack Baker. The three brothers are the third generation age difference. I'm the youngest oldest who is mom's favorite in a business that was started by their grandfather Henry in 1914, the Crystal Rock Water Company in Stamford. 100 years later, the brothers have turned that water into whiskey. Sort of how we built the Chris Rock business in one customer at a time. We inspect everything that comes in here. We're hands on owners, we're here every day, making sure that every part of the process is done. Complete at Litchfield distillery. The bakers start with Connecticut farmland. Connecticut grows great grains and it has the potential to make great spirits. So the process for us starts when we grind the grains into flour. So we're cooking it so we can convert the starch in these grains into sugar. Yeast is then added that takes us over to the fermentation tank. The job for the yeast is to eat the sugar, create alcohol. The alcohol is boiled in the still and separates out alcohol boils at 173 degrees. So we're going to start collecting alcohol at that point. And you can see that stream of alcohol coming out there and that is the beginning of bourbon coming out. Then it's off to be aged in Charred Oak barrels and a minimum of 2.5 years later, it's bottled pork seal and sign. Always with a thought and a thirst for what's next. And do your best ideas come when you're sitting around with a bourbon, maybe we call it quality control hour. You might call it cocktail hour or we call it quality control Three Brothers making award winning whiskey powered by the spirit of hard work. All right, the distillery does have a tasty room. Still a few weeks left in winter. And on this week's road trip, close to home news, 12 Shati Dennis takes us right on to a patch of ice tucked away inside of Prospect Park. So you can glide through the rest of the season. Winter is complete without fresh ice and some skates. And that's exactly what brings people to the heart of Prospect Park. They come here for fun. They come, they come here to have a great time. It's a family fun. The Lara Center Lakeside has not one but two ice skating rinks, the open sky rink, you're outside in the elements, especially on beautiful days and the sunsets are amazing here. You get to see the sunset over the Prospect Park Lake and the Cosmic Covered rin. So if it's a rainy day or a snowy day, you can purchase your ticket in the covered rink. The fun continues inside the warm restaurant with their new grub and games concept. We have old school video games here. We have air hockey, we have, we have Giant Connect Four, we have Jenga Foosball, we have pool and it's all free back outside kids and adults can learn or sharpen their skating skills, play hockey and curling and enjoy a bunch of other gliding activities. So whether you're venturing out on the ice for the very first time or a seasoned pro, all you need is to lace up. And if you don't have your own skates, this place has more than enough for you to rent. And a lot of people don't know that we're actually here because we're not visible from Ocean Avenue or Parkside Avenue. well. Are you looking to get in touch with one of mother nature's most majestic creatures? Well, the Lakota wolf preserve is the place for you News. 12. Photojournalist mike roberts takes us to Columbia up close and personal. Well, it's one of the things you normally get to see in a while. These guys, we raised them all from babies so they, they know us and trust us. You know, ever since I was a little kid, I wanted to go to Africa and do cheetah rescuers work with wolves. I met somebody about 26 years ago out in Colorado had a couple of wolves in his backyard that he had rescued and built an enclosure for him, started volunteering work with him and the animals got to the point where said Jim, I can't do this anymore. It's something to be interested in. I quit my job, sold my house here in New Jersey and built the place here. This is Knowlton Township and this is the king of the mountain here. So we're right at the base of the mountain range. So when you arrive, you can either choose to do a half a mile nature walk through the woods to get up to the preserve or we have a shuttle bus or people can't do that walk. We drive you right to the front gate that preserved. So we have four main enclosures that are all fenced in. Once the bus drops you off, we walk up into our observation area in the center of the preserved. You'd be surrounded by four different packs of wolves. Corolla gray wolf, that's the family name? We have different sub species of the gray wolf. We have Timberwolves, tundra, wolves, arctic wolves and british Columbian wolves. We have an educational talk about them to teach people about them and give them a chance to see them in their natural habitat. And we have private guided photography tours for photographers. They'll come through the walkways here. These panels open up and we work with the animals to get them in the area that they like and they can shoot through un obstructive, you know, through the fencing. Then we take you over and show you our fox, bobcat and lynx and we'll tell you all about those animals too. But we've taken these in from all over the country where they're already born and stuck in captivity from other facilities have been confiscated, you know, for various reasons and we've taken them into trying to get them just a good place to live out their lives and teach people about wolves. So in the fall, they grow in their winter coats and depending on how fast and how thick it is sometimes determines how bad the winter we're going to have. You know, they've always been the bad guy in the story and they're really not. They're very social family aren't an animal and they're a very cool animal. You know, they deserve a place to be in this world like everybody else. Uh, don't you love that. How tours at the preserve are held? Rain or shine tickets can be booked online. For more information. Close to home news, 12 photojournalist, Laurie Goliath takes a peek at this one of a kind shopping experience. It's a beautiful atmosphere. Here. We are a Bristol Bazaar and we are an indoor makers market that's open year round when you come to the Bristol Bazaar to shop as a customer. It is a super unique fun atmosphere. Right now. We have our candy land theme, our candy Topia theme. We really wanted to have a shopping experience for our customers that has the wow factor we have right now. 55 vendors that are with us and everything that you'll buy here is all made by hand by these folks. My business is soothing ways. Uh I make candles. I make Asian inspired soaps. Um Cardiff users, anything to soothe and help you destress your life for my business is Frosty Herd and I make these stand alone hoods, you can wear this anywhere. Um Either you're hiking or snowboarding. The hood is large enough to cover most helmets and even walking your dog. My business is tipsy Gypsy. It is a handmade jewelry business and consciously sourced crystals. All of my jewelry is handmade by me. Our customers, they love learning more about our makers themselves. When you buy from somebody that's a small business owner, you're shopping local, but that person literally does a happy dance. Being a part of this has been awesome. Um I've been a maker here since September being part of the Bristol Bazaar has been a fantastic, you'll see things from painted pots to uh children's clothing to baked goods, soaps, candles. So we have a huge laundry list of classes from calligraphy to sushi making uh ceramic painting. And then we have our coffee cocktail lounge that just opened as well. That's Yellow King. So Yellow King is a coffee cocktail lounge, but they specialize in coffee, cocktails, espresso martinis. Um They do espresso martini flights and coffee flights, but they also have teas, hot chocolates. Um They do breakfast foods and then they have Connecticut beer uh on the list as well. Come in and have a great experience here. It's really fun to just come in here and hang out and spend some time and and look at some of the things that are being created right here in our state. Do you enjoy relaxing reading a book or just hanging around with cats? Maybe news 12 New Jersey Photojournalist mike roberts takes us on this road trip close to home. How could you like look at a cat and not smile. This is literally my heaven right now. They just are great companions. They give you unconditional love. You're a little little love. Cats have so many different personalities and every personality is gonna be for every different person. And also it's just fun to like hang out with some cats and unwind a little. My mom and I always rescue cats. Our newest guy, Yoshi, he has a sister named Peach since I was like 10. We used to have like cats in our basement and all over the place and um, so we were always into cat rescue and I rented this space in january of 2017 and we opened at the beginning of april Hello? I don't know. I feel like cats are like almost like people in a weird way they have like human personalities in terms of like having boundaries and like it's just fun to to know you earn a cat's love adopt a cat. All the cats that we have in here up for adoption. He got some pause easy. He's big, he's a big big murder mittens there through angel paws rescue in colonia. They all these cats belong to them, You fill out an application, found a cat you like you get approved and you come and pick the cat that you want. I currently have three cats. One I got not too long ago I rescued what my daughter here I said that's good therapy, you know, let's go hang out and she came home and she goes, parker was talking to me. So hence she put in the application and she got the cat and we came and picked her up and she's doing great. We lost count. I mean they're all hanging up on the wall out there. All of our ones have found their homes and they're always a pleasure to have. Cats are great. They'll pick you, yep. Exactly. Exactly. You can't look at these creatures and not say, oh my God, I gotta help it or whatever, whether it's outside and needs to be rescued or it needs a home. Like I said, I hit the lottery. They're all mine. I would love to live at all the kitties. I think anyone would Hi friend. Oh you're a little golden little lioness. Like when I go to petsmart, I just have on all the glasses and give them all some little love before I head out and if you give them cuddling and love, you can't ask for more than that. SOLAR ECLIPSE TAKE 2-

Yes, this is a once in a 375 year experience. Experts say this year's solar eclipse will be much grander than in years past because of totality, meaning the sky will go completely dark depending on where you're located. Now, here are some tips and tricks to ensure you have the best viewing experience. NASA tells us to understand the map. The total solar eclipse will travel through Mexico across the United States from Texas to Maine and exit North America along Canada's Atlantic Coast according to space.com. So plan your path and find a special place to watch it. Would you prefer a me eclipse or a we eclipse? Sometimes the best viewing location could be from your very own home. If you're looking for more of a group experience, book a reservation, maybe a ticket to an outdoor festival. Some seriously scenic locations include Niagara Falls or Lake Erie too and remember to never look directly into the sun without appropriate safety equipment. However, during totality, when the sun is completely covered, you will be able to look at it with the naked eye again, the total solar eclipse is happening Monday, April 8 th for now we're in Brooklyn.
