Police have charged a second suspect with murder and other counts in connection to the Queens robbery that led to the friendly fire death of an NYPD detective from Long Island.
The second suspect, identified as 25-year-old Jagger Freeman, is accused of acting as a lookout during the robbery at a T-Mobile store.
Detective Brian Simonsen, 42, of Calverton, responded to the robbery, along with seven other officers. Police say that's when 27-year-old Christopher Ransom charged at officers holding a fake handgun.
The officers fired 42 shots at the suspect in 11 seconds. When the smoke cleared, Simonsen had been struck once in the chest, and was pronounced dead.
Sgt. Matthew Gorman, of Seaford, was also shot in the leg. He has since been released from the hospital.
Freeman is being charged with murder, robbery, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon, police said Sunday.
Ransom has been described as a career criminal with a long rap sheet, including allegations of impersonating a police officer. Ransom is facing charges of murder and manslaughter.
Services for Detective Simonsen will be held in Hampton Bays next week. Wakes are scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, and his funeral will be held on Wednesday.
Detective Simonsen worked in the 102nd Precinct in Richmond Hill, where a memorial outside continues to grow.
