2nd suspect in robbery that led to NYPD detective's death held without bail
The second suspect charged in the Queens robbery that led to the death of an NYPD detective from Long Island has been ordered held without bail.
Jagger Freeman, 25, is accused of acting as a lookout in the robbery that led to the friendly fire death of NYPD Detective Brian Simonsen.
Freeman allegedly stood watch outside of a Queens T-Mobile store while it was being held up on Tuesday.
Investigators say a total of eight officers responded and the alleged thief, 27-year-old Christopher Ransom, charged at them with a fake handgun.
The group of officers fired a total of 42 shots at the suspect in 11 seconds and when the smoke cleared, 42-year-old Simonsen, a Calverton native, had been struck once in the chest.
Simonsen was not wearing a protective vest and was killed.
Another officer, Sgt. Matthew Gorman of Seaford, was shot in the leg. He's since been released from the hospital.
Both suspects in the case were hit with long lists of charges, including murder and robbery. Ransom was charged last week, and police announced charges against Freeman on Saturday.
Prosecutors say Ransom and Freeman worked together on two separate occasions. The other robbery allegedly happened only four days earlier, on Feb. 8.
Freeman's case is now scheduled to go before a grand jury on Feb. 21.
Services for Detective Simonsen will be held in Hampton Bays this week. Wakes are scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, and his funeral will be held on Wednesday.
