The state's Workforce Development Initiative is launching its second round of funding to help New Yorkers find well-paying jobs.
Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul announced at Brooklyn College Wednesday that the $48 million in funding will support strategic regional efforts to help people find quality jobs and meet businesses' short-term workforce needs.
This latest round of funding is part of the state's plan to roll out $175 million total for the program, and Brooklyn College President Michelle J. Anderson says that it is particularly important for students looking for work.
"It has three key objectives," Anderson says. "First, to expand and enhance the healthcare workforce in central and south Brooklyn. Second, to build a healthcare, high school to career pipeline for students. And third, to match, we'll prepared college graduates with excellent healthcare employment opportunities."
Applications for funding through the program open Aug. 2, and are targeted to zones designated under Gov. Andrew Cuomo's Gun Violence Prevention Initiative.
