Police say a 59-year-old woman died after being struck by a car in Throgs Neck Monday night.
They say the woman was crossing eastbound at the intersection of East Tremont Avenue and Sampson Avenue Monday around 7 p.m. when a 2007 Mazda sedan heading south collided with her.
Authorities say the woman suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
The incident was caught on surveillance video at Urban Health and Wellness, a nearby business. Mark Muth, the owner of the business, tells News 12 that speeding is a common issue in the area.
"On this main road of East Tremont Avenue, I've actually heard it happen a couple of times,” says Muth. “A family friend passed away in the same type of accident."
According to the city's Vision Zero statistics, two injuries were reported at the intersection last year.

The driver remained at the scene and has not been criminally charged.
The victim’s name has not been released and is pending family notification. News 12 was told it has been difficult for authorities to track down her family.
