5K aims to help people recently released from prison
Formerly incarcerated Bronx residents banded together Sunday to help those recently released from prison reintegrate into society.
The Race for Re-Entry 5K helps raise funds and awareness for services for people returning from incarceration.
Organizers say they want to create opportunities for those recently released from prison to live successful lives and be law-abiding citizens.
Jen Lackard, founder of the race says, “We want people to start talking about re-entry at a larger level, and not really relying on the government to figure out what's going to happen. We as a community can come up with the resources together.”
She says they also work towards creating positive relations between law enforcement and the community.
