Tuesday is World AIDS Day, a time to raise awareness of AIDS and HIV -- the virus that causes it -- which have afflicted an estimated 30 million people worldwide.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo committed $200 million to support anti-HIV and AIDS efforts in the 2016-2017 state budget.
The governor also pledged to bring the fight to Washington, D.C., and even declared a date to end the spread of the disease.
"The goal is to end the epidemic," the governor said after announcing the added funding. "And that's why New York was the first state to give it a target date: 2020."
