Dressed in all white, advocates marched against domestic violence Monday in memory of a bride who was killed on her wedding day.

Marchers walked from Washington Heights to the Bronx and then to East Harlem in the 16th annual Gladys Ricart and Victims of Domestic Violence Memorial Walk. 

Ricart was killed in 1999 on her wedding day by her abusive ex-boyfriend.

Her family was at the march to keep Ricart's memory alive. 

"It's really interesting how this one case has such momentum, like a domino effect of things that happened. It just shows the person she was and even in death she's making changes," says Ricart's niece, Marie Ann Liriano.

Supporters chanted "Stop the violence in the Bronx!" According to city statistics, the Bronx had the highest number of intimate partner homicides citywide in 2015. In that same year, the Bronx was the second highest for domestic incident reports after Brooklyn.
