Anti-violence group pays tribute to local moms
The anti-violence community group Save Our Streets dedicated the day after Mother's Day to mothers across the borough, arguing they should be recognized all the time.
SOS threw local moms an event including food, bingo and pampering.
Group leaders say they want moms to know they're appreciated by the community and play an important role in shaping their children's futures.
And when young people become involved in violence, it's not just the victims who are affected, but their mothers too, the group says.
SOS is also looking forward to a potential milestone. Organizers say they are close to reaching a full year without any shootings at the St. Mary's, Betances, Adams and Moore Houses. Currently, those NYCHA complexes have gone 337 days without gun violence.
