A Long Island businessman says his family-owned business at MacArthur Airport could be closing after 46 years if a plan to shutter his hangar goes forward.
Ed Libassi, who owns A&P Aircraft Maintenance, says his landlord recently told him that they were planning to tear down his on-site hangar to repurpose the space, possibly for a hotel.
A&P then went to the Town of Islip, which owns the airport, to ask about moving into a vacant hangar. He says the town gave him a price that is about three or four times what he can afford – after rent and repairs.
Libassi now says he's waiting on pins and needles to find out if he will be out of business.
The town says the landlord would first need permission to tear down the hangar. The town says any new project would take months or years to figure out the logistics.

It says A&P will continue to operate in the meantime. The company services small and large aircrafts.
