‘Art AIDS America’ exhibit comes to Bronx Museum of the Arts
The Bronx Museum of the Arts has a special exhibition opening Wednesday that looks into the realities of HIV and AIDS in the community.
'Art AIDS America' is the first exhibition to examine the deep and ongoing influence of the AIDS crisis on American art and culture.
The display, which features more than 125 works from 1981 to today, showcases how artists responded to the epidemic, and features artists particularly connected to the Bronx.
Since the first reported cases of AIDS, the Bronx has experienced and continues to experience, one of the highest HIV infection rates of any county in the nation, according to Montefiore Medical Center.
The museum is looking to put stigma aside and continue the HIV conversation with local residents through the exhibit.
The exhibit runs through Sept. 25.
