Prom night is one of the most exciting times for teenagers, but finding the right dress for ladies can become bit of a challenge, especially when the budget is tight.
A student and teacher at the Kurt Hahn Expeditionary School decided on a different option that still made for a night to remember.
Student Rofiat Olasunkanmi designed and created her own prom dress with the help of her art teacher Meno Mazid.
Olasunkanmi, who is a senior at the school, thought if she took the design of the dress she did to an affordable tailor, it would be less expensive than buying one.
"I showed her this is what I want, and she was like this is going to be $700," says Olasunkanmi.

Olasunkanmi says the price was too much, especially for someone who is saving for college.
She told Mazid what happened, saying economically that price just wasn't going to cut it. So, the art teacher offered a different choice.
She came up with the idea to cut the dress herself. With the help of Mazid, who also teaches an elective textile class at the school, Olasunkanmi would sew her own prom dress.
“We stuck with it, because in my mind throughout the month of May I was like I don't want her to start and say you know what never mind I will just buy a dress online,” says Mazid.

The pair worked together from April on, sewing after school.
The pair says it was all worth it when Olasunkanmi wore the dress they made to prom on Monday.
"I was so proud and happy, I could see it in her face," Mazid.
