Authorities: 3 men face attempted murder charges for firing at police officers
Three men are facing attempted murder charges after they allegedly got into a shootout with police officers in Trenton.
The shootout happened Wednesday afternoon near West State Street and Parkside Avenue.
New Jersey State Police say that a Hamilton Township police officer driving an unmarked police car witnessed a shooting in the area and followed the suspects for a little while. Police say that those men shot at the officer, striking his car. The men then ran away from the area, according to police.
The men were all eventually arrested. Dion Battle, 28, Shaiquan A. Hearns, 20, and Yahonatan R. Salter, 28, all of Trenton, are now facing attempted murder and weapons charges.
Police say that in the process of arresting the three men, they also arrested 30-year-old Tameka Flemming and charged her with unlawful possession of a handgun, hindering apprehension and other charges.
All four are being held at the Mercer County Jail pending detention hearings.
