Authorities are investigating after a man's body was pulled from the Bronx River Wednesday.
Officials say 34-year-old Javier Horta, who was a father and librarian, was last seen March 25 on Noble Avenue after he left a friend's apartment and went to catch a cab with another friend. Officials say Horta told his friend that he had forgotten his wallet, and he went back to get it. He had been missing ever since.
Responders say they found Horta fully clothed at Starlight Park near Sheridan Expressway around noon after someone called 911 to report his body in the river.
The cause of death isn't immediately apparent, and a medical examiner will make that determination after an autopsy, according to officials. Crime scene investigators were at the scene.
Construction workers who were working near the site say that plywood was used to recover the body.
A News 12 crew that arrived early to the scene saw the victim lying face-down in the mud.
