Best of Bronx: P.S. 226 students sing opera
Ten students from P.S. 226 got the chance to perform opera onstage in Manhattan this past weekend.
The students were trained by Cheryl Warfield, director of the Manhattan Opera Repertory Ensemble. Warfield says their performance of "Tosca" required a children's chorus in the first act and they recruited the group to introduce them to opera.
"They just grasped the music very quickly," says Warfield. "They've learned some new skills and how to apply them rapidly."
The choir will be performing again in "Tosca" Wednesday night at the Dicapo Opera Theatre in Manhattan.
