A collaboration between two Bronx artists separated by generations has brought their work to the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C.
Two years ago at a high school showcase, John Ahearn stumbled upon the work of Devon Rodriguez, and the two have been inspiring each other since then.
It was Rodriguez's oil-painted portraits that caught Ahearn's eye. They struck up a mentor-mentee relationship, as well as a friendship.
Two busts titled the "Rodriguez Twins" were eventually submitted to and accepted by the National Portrait Gallery. The work will be on display there through January 2017.
As for what's next, Rodriguez says he plans to do a series of portraits featuring Bronx residents, while Ahearn will return to the Washington museum with another piece in 2018.
