Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City is helping people come together at a time where most people have to stay apart.
While many aspects of life are on pause, the CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of NYC says mentoring is not.
"We need to make sure there's a reliable, caring safety net in place through the power and magic of mentoring relationships," says Alicia Guevera.
The organization was built off of face-to-face interactions for more than a century but now has gone completely virtual.
Tijean Campbell and Michael Witham went from meeting in person to keeping in touch through their phones and other technology.
"We're gonna get tighter and maintain that bond," Campbell says
A total of 5,600 children across the city have been part of the virtual mentoring experience.
Guevera says the goal is to build the next generation of leaders in the city.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City is currently recruiting people virtually for those looking to help.
