Fireworks sales in Connecticut won't become a reality for residents, at least not for now.

A bill to legalize sales died after the Judiciary Committee failed to bring it up for a vote.

The lack of a vote came after the bill had received strong objections from fire chiefs.

The bill would have allowed anyone 21 or over to buy fireworks and use them between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. on any day.

The National Fire Protection Agency reports fireworks start an average of 18,500 fires per year.
