A bodega worker was caught on camera stealing what store owners say was $1,300 on his first full day of work.

Video shows the cook going over to a shelf behind the counter and swiping a bag full of cash and walking away.

"We trusted the guy to come in and work with us and he took advantage of that -- grabbed the money and walked out," said part owner Joel Camilo.

The owners of Mavelyn Deli say the money was supposed to go into a safe, but one of the owner's daughters took the cash out of the register and put it in the bag.

Camilo says they found the employee on Trabajos para mi Gente en New York, a Facebook page that offers job opportunities to immigrants.

Camilo says he regrets not doing a thorough background check.
