Barretto Point Park has reopened after the discovery of human body parts there Tuesday night.
Investigators have sectioned off the area where police sources say a woman's foot and arm turned up in black garbage bags near the park's pier.
A source tells News 12 that a family made the gruesome discovery while walking in the park just after 7 p.m. Tuesday. They then called police. Crime scene units, detectives and the medical examiner responded to the scene.
The discovery came less than a week after a woman's severed remains were found in bags just outside Crotona Park. City Parks Department workers made that discovery. Police released a sketch of the woman to whom those parts may have belonged.
On Wednesday, families continued to use Barretto Point Park, looking at the active crime scene in shock and disbelief.
It remained unclear whether the parts found in Barretto Point Park belong to the same woman whose parts turned up outside Crotona Park.
A home on Longfellow Avenue was being investigated for a possible connection to the body parts found in one of the parks.
