Borough president, Yankees host Little Leaguers
Yankee Stadium was the backdrop for two Little League Baseball teams Tuesday for the sixth annual Borough President Cup.
Kids from the Rolando Paulino and Grand Slam teams came from a tournament open to students who excel academically. Players from each team must have a "B" average in school.
Organizers say the event gave students the opportunity to explore career options along the line as they competed for a chance to play in the legendary ballpark.
"For them it's a dream come true," says Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. "For me, as borough president, and the Yankees, it's a way to give back to the community. A way to push our young men to better themselves academically."
The Grand Slam team won the top prize.
