With less than one year until the 2020 census, Bronx leaders are coming together to make sure the public is accounted for.
Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. says he’s aware of the concern surrounding the census, especially the fear of the possible inclusion of the citizenship question. That battle is currently being considered in the U.S. Supreme Court.
"I am going to ask everyone, whether you are a citizen or not, not to answer that question – but to still fill out the census application," says Diaz Jr.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the benefits of a full count include federal funding, grants, state to county support, public safety and emergency preparedness.
Only about half of the Bronx was counted during the 2010 census.
