Bratton: Officer who shot dog will have to explain his actions
Police Commissioner Bill Bratton is speaking out after an NYPD officer shot and killed a Bronx woman's dog.
The officer says the pit bull charged at them, but his owner, Yvonne Rosado, says that's not what actually happened.
Surveillance video from Feb. 13 shows the 4-year-old pit bull approach the officers as they stood outside her East 184th Street apartment.
News 12 stopped the video just before the dog is shot, but it shows the officer on the stairs fire a single shot to the head.
"In all circumstances, we would have to leave it to the officer's understanding for what's happening at the scene and as to what piece of equipment he might use, Taser, pepper spray, firearm," said Bratton. "Since he used the firearm, that was part of the investigation, he'll have to justify what was going through his mind at the particular time."
