Bronx art supply store closing down business
A Bronx art supply store closed down its business Friday after the company says it just isn't making enough money.
The national chain store, Artist and Craftsman Supply on White Plains Road, shut its doors for good at 5 p.m.
Residents say they are upset the store is closing because of the convenience and variety of art supplies and resources the store provided. They say the store also offered art classes for the community.
Some residents even came together in protest Friday evening to say it's not fair because it's one of just a few art stores in the Bronx. They told News 12 it's hard for artists because they have to travel to other boroughs in order to get supplies.
Protestors say they are hoping to raise awareness about the lack of art resources in the Bronx and possibly encourage entrepreneurs to open up a new supply shop for the community.
In a statement, the regional manager of the store tells News 12, "It is with great regret that we must close our doors. Unfortunately we cannot contemplate relocating at this time. It is quite likely we will investigate another location in the Bronx at some point in the future."
