Police have released surveillance video of an assault on a 50-year-old Bronx man in front of his own apartment building on Sheridan Avenue.
The victim was heading home around 1 a.m. on Oct. 18 after working in Manhattan when one man hopped on his back, grabbed him by the neck and then dragged him from behind, police say. According to police, a second suspect then stole the victim's cellphone, a third took his wallet, which had bank cards and a MetroCard and fourth suspect stood watch.
The victim told News 12 he believes his attackers followed him home from the subway. He says he thinks they may have had their eyes on him because he was talking into the new iPhone 8 Plus. He says he has lived in the area for almost five years and never had anything like this happened to him.
"One of the guys was choking me real hard and the other one was saying 'Let him breathe, let him breathe,' and then he let go of my neck," the victim says.
He says that the incident taught him not to carry a lot of money or an expensive phone around.
About an hour after the robbery, police say the suspects also used his stolen credit card to buy a MetroCard worth $122.
The suspects are still on the loose. News 12 is told one suspect was wearing a jacket with a distinctive design on the back, including "Japan" and a tiger. Anyone with information is asked to call police.
