Bronx auto body manager identified as homicide victim
The manager of a Bronx auto body shop was found dead inside his car after a robbery at the business, according to police.
Robert Bishun, 36, of Rockland County, was found dead inside his car with a zip tie wrapped around his neck Tuesday night. Authorities say Bishun's death was caused by asphyxiation.
Police say two men wearing hooded sweatshirts, bandanas, caps and gloves entered the Stillwell Avenue auto body shop in Morris Park around 9 p.m. Tuesday and tied up two customers, locking them inside the trunks of cars. According to police, the customers were able to escape, and when they went back into the store the two robbers were gone, along with Bishun.
Police discovered Bishun's body in his missing BMW six miles away on Broadway by Van Cortlandt Park in Fieldston. He was transported to Montefiore Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Officials say Bishun owned the shop with his wife.
According to a court document from 2012, Bishun was charged with housing a heroin operation out of the auto body shop and served three years in prison.
Police say the auto body shop, which has undergone several name changes over the years, was robbed in a similar fashion in 2015. It is currently called Supreme Collision.
No arrests have been made in connection with Bishun's death.
