Mott Haven residents gathered Saturday to celebrate the success of one of their own.
Bronx boxer Nisa Rodriguez made her Olympic aspirations a reality after winning gold in a qualifier in the Central American and Caribbean Games in Colombia.
Rodriguez came back home to her neighborhood on St. Ann's Avenue and East 145th Street where she was celebrated with a block party.
People of all ages enjoyed music, games, food and boxing demonstrations from Rodriguez and her group "Team Go Get It."
Neighbors say Rodriguez often gives back to her community, and hopes to do even more by opening a gym in the Bronx.
Former Councilwoman Carmen Arroyo helped organize the block party with other community leaders. She gave the boxer proclamation for her success and promised to sit down with her to potentially help open that gym.
