An award-winning photojournalist was honored at Bronx Community College Wednesday.
Marisol Diaz-Gordon was born and raised in the Bronx and now uses her photos to inspire teachers and students at her alma mater.
"I encourage people if they want something to work for it and don't give up," Diaz-Gordon said.
As a 1993 graduate of the community college, Diaz-Gordon has seen many accomplishments in her career. She was named a Photographer of the Year by the Associated Press in 2012.
Much of Diaz-Gordon's photography is meant to capture what life is like for New Yorkers.
She says she learned photography at an early age from her mother before going on to Bronx Community College. She told News 12 that shooting photos can be an adventure.
"What I do benefits me as an artist and I wouldn't trade my career with any in the world," Diaz Gordon said. "It's an open classroom every time I go out."
Some of Diaz-Gordon's work is being shown at the school to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Her work will be on display at Bliss Hall until the end of the month.
