Some commuters in New York say they are still nervous to ride the subway after terrorists detonated bombs at an airport and metro station in Brussels, Belgium Tuesday.

The NYPD and Port Authority police have stepped up patrols at subway stations and the city's three major airports.

Security and police forces will continue to maintain a larger than normal presence across transit hubs over the foreseeable future, according to Mayor Bill de Blasio.

The mayor and Police Commissioner Bill Bratton held a press conference yesterday addressing the concerns over public safety amid the bombing overseas. They reassured New Yorkers that there is nothing to worry about, and that there is no credible threat to New York City.

To illustrate their point, the mayor and commissioner both rode the subway to show that it was safe. 

Meanwhile, some Bronx residents say they feel safer than ever knowing the city has added extra police and security to subway stations.

Commissioner Bratton has encouraged anyone who sees something suspicious to speak up. 

One commuter says she thinks having extra security is a privilege that all New Yorkers should feel grateful for.
