A Bronx man who's been waiting nearly two months for a replacement oven from NYCHA learned of an update after News 12 looked into the issue.
Ronnell Thompson says he and his mom have been without decent meals, even during the holidays, at their Soundview apartment.
They assumed it would take a month, at most, to get a new oven. Instead, they've been waiting since the end of October when Con Ed and the FDNY cut the gas line to the oven after neighbors reported a natural gas smell in the hallway.
Con Ed workers detected high levels of gas coming from the oven and attached a Class B warning tag, requiring the gas shutoff. A ticket for a replacement oven was filed in December after going back-and-forth with NYCHA, according to Thompson. He says a timeline was not given.
NYCHA did give him and his mom a hotplate, but Thompson said they were left in the dark about the replacement.
At 6 p.m. Monday, NYCHA told News 12 it spoke with Thompson saying they'll be getting a new oven on Wednesday.
