Bronx inaugurates its 1st female DA
Elected officials came to witness a historic day in the Bronx Saturday as Darcel Clark was inaugurated as the borough's district attorney.
Clark is the first female district attorney ever in the Bronx, and the first female African-American DA in the state of New York.
Sworn in by the honorable Sheila Abdus Salaam, Clark is a Bronx native who served as an associate justice for the New York state Supreme Court appellate division before taking on her new role.
Clark says her main goal is to prevent youth from being incarcerated.
"It means working in and with the community to give our kids jobs and treatment before they end up in the criminal justice system," said Clark.
Clark's other initiatives include improving police and community relations, and prosecuting crimes more efficiently.
Sen. Charles Schumer and state Assembly Speaker Carl E. Heastie were in attendance at the inauguration.
