Bronx residents celebrate jazz for SummerStage Kids Art Festival
Van Cortlandt Park is hosting a jazz jam session for the Bronx's singers, dancers and musicians.
The event is part of the City Parks Foundation's SummerStage Kids Art Festival.
SummerStage brings free music, dance and theatre performances to each of the boroughs all summer.
Both beginning musicians and professionals are invited to the event.
The resident professional for Thursday is Marc Cary, a jazz pianist who has worked with the likes of Abbey Lincoln and Erykah Badu.
"I was born in New York, but I grew up in Washington, D.C., where we had a very musical culture and this is part of our summer program," Cary said. "You can always look forward to hearing great music and hearing great musicians."
This weekend the Jazz-Themed Community Family Day will highlight the genre and its connection to the city while offering interactive fun for the whole family.
An even larger jazz experience will be held at Queensbridge Park on Sunday.
