Celebrations happened across New York City Sunday to honor World Pride 2019 and the 50 anniversary of the Stonewall riots.
News 12’s Laura Haefeli joined LGBTQ supporters on Third Avenue in the Bronx to share in the celebrations.
"Gay people in Uganda, gay people in Rwanda, gay people in Ukraine, gay people all over the world are standing up and saying ‘we're here,’” said Paul Monroe of Mott Haven.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer says that while the fight for the gay community has made great strides, the fight is still not over.
“I believe in diversity in every way, and New York is the center of diversity in America,” he says.
