Community members and over a dozen Girl Scout troops planted trees along the Bronx River Parkway in honor of Earth Day on Monday.
In an effort to raise awareness of climate change and other environmental issues, the Bronx River Alliance gave the Girl Scouts the opportunity to plant trees and give back to the earth.
One Girl Scout, Anisette, 8, planned to pull out plants not native to the area before helping to plant over 150 fresh trees.
The Bronx River Alliance will host another event on Thursday at Shoelace Park, where the group will pick up trash from 9a.m. to noon.
