One Bronx teacher has earned a spot as a finalist for the Grammy Music Educator Award.
Over 3,000 teachers around the country were nominated, but Kokoe Tanaka-Suwan made the list as one of the top 10 finalists.
Tanaka-Suwan, also known as Ms. Kokoe, says her students are sharing this dream with her. The boogie-down is usually in the spotlight for hip-hop, but Tanaka-Suwan is letting classical sound take center stage.
"Classical music is definitely not the norm here," said Tanaka-Suwan.
Students shared their excitement for the teacher they say has taught them violin and other string instruments. "She is like a second mother," a student told News 12.
