A Bronx woman is filing a lawsuit against the NYPD after claiming an officer shot and killed her dog.
Yvonne Rosado says an officer entered her apartment at 156 E. 184th St. on Feb. 13 and fired two shots at her dog, killing the beloved family pet.
"I said, 'He's friendly, he's friendly,' twice I yelled out. I thought he was pointing his finger at the dog, but it was a gun in his hand," says Rosado.
Police say they were responding to a domestic violence call at a neighboring apartment when the dog approached the officer inside a stairwell.
Surveillance video of the incident shows the 4-year-old pit bull named Spike approach the officer. The video also shows the officer firing one shot at the dog's head.
Her lawyer, who has already begun the process of filing a lawsuit against the NYPD, says the video evidence shows dangerous actions by the officer.
Rosado says her dog was a gentle animal and the family does not deserve to be going through this type of heartbreak.
News 12 reached out to police for comment and was told the situation is being reviewed by the NYPD's Force Investigation Division.
