May is Haitian Heritage Month – and a Crown Heights restaurant is honoring it with an art exhibit.
The exhibit, curated by Watson Mere, is called Fwi Ayti - which translates to fruit of Haiti. It can be found on the walls of the Lakou Café.
The exhibit brings to life the beauty, strength and resilience of a nation that defied all odds in becoming the first free Black republic.
“Haiti has always been there to essentially be that beacon of hope for self-determination and creating your own, said Cassandre Davilmar, owner of Lakou Cafe.
Lakou Café is open seven days a week and the exhibit will be on display all month long.
