Bronx lawmakers are pushing for increased ferry service from Throgs Neck.
Councilman Mark Gjonaj introduced the legislation to the City Council Thursday. He was joined by Assemblyman Michael Benedetto Friday at Ferry Point Park to request ferry service from Throgs Neck and Citi Field in Queens on the same route to midtown Manhattan and the financial district.
Gjonaj says the Economic Development Corporation ignored their requests in the city's fiscal budget so now they are going through the City Department of Transportation to try and get it accomplished through legislation.
"Just last month the city announced an additional $300 million to increase its ferry capacity, existing piers and docks and second maintenance port, but somehow they couldn't find the resources to bring ferry service to these underserved communities," Gjonaj said.
People in attendance Friday don't have an exact area in the park where they want the ferry to dock. They told News 12 they'll leave the logistics up to the city.
