A Bronx-based group is helping those in need this holiday season.

The Jericho Project aims to help the more than 60,000 people who will spend the holidays without food or shelter in New York City.

The organization will hold its first ever Day of Action on Dec. 2 to make sure those in need have food, clothes and toys for the holidays.

"This is an opportunity for people to do something," says Tori Lyon, CEO of The Jericho Project. "There are solutions out there that are working, that are ending homelessness every day."

Jeff Malone, a formerly homeless Army veteran who served a tour in Iraq, will be one of the many volunteers at the Day of Action. He says he knows what it's like to need a helping hand, especially during the holiday season.

"This is the first time that I can actually say that I've had somewhere to stay and not be concerned about whether or not I would have a home to go to," says Malone.

Malone lives in one of the five locations the Jericho Project has in the Bronx. The locations serve over 2,000 adults, children, veterans and LGBT young adults.

Malone says he wants his success story to be the same for others.

"Day of Action is supposed to be, even down on the community level, a reminder to people that there is a way we can help, we can come together, we can make sure everyone has somewhere warm to go home to at the end of the day," says Malone.
