New York granted recreational marijuana licenses Wednesday to 24 more local businesses, but some are looking for ways to bring dispensaries straight to the consumer.
Director of Police for the Office of Cannabis Management John Kagia gave News 12 an inside look at how their new initiative called the "Cannabis Grower's Showcase" works.
"The growers would be able to bring their products and showcase them to customers," Kagia says.
He says this atmosphere is intended to provide access to legal regulated cannabis across the state and particularly in places that are underserved by retail stores.
Kagia says if a jurisdiction opted out to retail cannabis stores, then they cannot have a CGS there.
He says cannabis showcases could happen at grower farms, processing facilities or cannabis retailers like Strain Stars in Farmingdale.
Kagia says the grower's showcase could present an opportunity to allow consumers on Long Island to start getting access to legal cannabis.
He says there is also a public health interest to the strategy so unlicensed products from unknown origins are not being sold.
News 12 is told organizers need to submit detailed plans about where they tend to hold a showcase, as well as a thorough background on the product they intend to sell.
