The car-free High Bridge connecting the Bronx to Manhattan is now open to the public again for the first time in 45 years.
The 167-year-old bridge underwent a major three-year, $61.8 million reconstruction project and reopened Tuesday as the first inter-borough passage exclusively for pedestrians and bicyclists.
Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. and Congressman Jose Serrano were present at the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the historic landmark.
The new High Bridge is 1,450 feet in length and boasts over 125 aces of baseball fields and basketball courts.
