A vehicle crashed into a sign, a fence and wooden posts in Malverne early Saturday morning, and neighbors say it's just the latest in a series of crashes in the area.
It happened around 4 a.m. on Hempstead Avenue at Atlas Avenue, at a corner near where drivers come off the Southern State Parkway.
The car first hit a sign, then took out a neighbor's fence and then hit some wooden fence posts that a resident had put up to block people.
Homeowner Christopher Cirami says his family has lived in the area for about 12 years, and says they've seen at least six accidents just like this one.
"This means something needs to be done. If the town's not going to do it I'm going to do it myself, because this is just insane to deal with this," he says.
Cirami says the sound of last night's crash woke up his entire family. He says his children play in the backyard, and the danger posed by crashes is a major concern.
Cirami says he has reached out to the town to try to get a steel guard rail installed but so far has not heard anything about it.
Hempstead Town officials say there is no one to comment on this story at the moment and the matter will be reviewed on Monday.
