The agency warned against traveling this year and is urging people to stay home with their immediate family.
The CDC is encouraging virtual dinners, small family get-togethers and dining on turkey and mashed potatoes outdoors if possible, and letting people know the risks involved with large gatherings.
The agency says for family and friends who can't celebrate, you can drop off food but to make sure it's done contactless and that you both wash your hands after handling food packages.
The CDC says to avoid in-person parades or sporting events. Holiday shopping, like Black Friday, should be done virtually, the CDC says.
