‘Celebration of life’ – Activists mark Eric Garner’s birthday outside Barclays Center

Activists and performers are celebrating the birthday of Eric Garner – the Staten Island man who died after being choked by a NYPD officer during his arrest for selling loose cigarettes.
They gathered at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn where there was musical performance, dance routines and speakers from the Black Lives Matter movement.
Garner’s mother and activists are pushing for Sept. 15 to be “Eric Garner Day” in New York City.
They say having his own day would shine a light on other minorities who have died at the hands of police.
