Church raises money for displaced Throgs Neck mother
A Throgs Neck mother who lost her home in a fire last weekend is getting overwhelming support from the neighborhood.
A total of three families were displaced after a fire tore through a two-story home at 3550 E. Tremont Ave. on Sunday.
Rebecca Borerro, a single mother, lost everything in the flames and moved in with her mother.
St. Benedict's Church, just a couple of blocks away from her destroyed home, started an online fundraiser for her family, raising nearly $3,000 in one week.
"Everyone here has just carried us...they've carried us through this week," Borerro told News 12.
Throgs Neck also said they would help her reconstruct her home.
