City officials and nonprofit groups are taking aim at homelessness as the winter months approach.
Recent statistics show that about 58,000 people stay in the city's homeless shelters each day, according to the Department of Homeless Services.
City officials and representatives of BronxWorks gave News 12 a tour of the borough to illustrate measures being taken to tackle homelessness as cold weather approaches.
Workers say they often rely on the public calling 311 to report people who may need help.
Then they physically track them down and try to help them find shelter.
"The ultimate goal is housing," says Juan Rivera, the program director at BronxWorks. "The ultimate goal is to get that person to be a productive member of society once again."
