City officials held a press briefing amid growing concern over the Zika virus.
Three people from New York City have been infected with Zika virus while outside of the country.
The virus is transmitted by mosquitos and recently spread through many Latin American and Caribbean countries at a rapid pace.
Zika virus can cause birth defects, so governments across the world are advising pregnant women against going to the areas where it's been detected.
City officials say the Health Department is working closely with the CDC to educate those who may travel to countries where the Zika virus is commonly found.
Symptoms of the virus include fever, muscle and joint pain, rashes and headaches, according to health officials.
There is no current vaccination to prevent Zika infections, but it cannot be spread directly from person to person, the CDC says.
